Fake Accent

What is Fake Accent?

Before we talk about Fake Accent, we need to understand what is the meaning of the word Accent!

Accent is a manner of pronunciation peculiar to a particular individual, location or nation. An accent is generally identified with the region speakers reside in! For example the English accent of Indians is distinctly different from the accent of those speaking English in US or UK or Thailand!

Accent depends or is affected by quality of voice, pronunciation, distinction of vowels & stress!

Having explained Accent, what is Fake Accent

As the logic says, Fake Accent is a false or put-on accent. Fake Accent in simple terms is when a person develops speech patterns that are perceived as a foreign accent; different from their native accent, without having acquired it in the perceived accent's place of origin. For example an Indian speaking with a US accent or a British accent.

Why is Fake Accent a strict No-No in Cinema

Cinema is a very closed Industry and people hire aspirants who can be trusted and are more professional than what is generally perceived as professional!

When an aspirant puts a Fake Accent during an interview or when meeting, a prospective employer - the employer knows immediately that the person is a show-off and can't be trusted, at all!

The employer might talk to the aspirant in a very animated or 'interested' manner; but the fact is that the employer will never hire such a person. This is the reason Fake Accent a strict No-No in Cinema.
